Politis PR Tip #4: Are You on Deadline?

Public Relations Tips — Tip No. 4:

When you call journalists (after introducing yourself and who you represent), the first words out of your mouth need to be

Are you on deadline?

The truth of the matter is that journalists are always on deadline, but even more so today with the advent of online publishing systems.

Not being courteous enough to utter those four simple words — Are you on deadline? — merely illustrates how little a so-called public relations professional truly understands the inner workings of a newsroom.

Even if you are contacting a freelancer, a one-person media outlet or a blogger organization, the question still stands: Are you on deadline?
