David Politis is an award-winning
public relations, investor relations and marketing communications professional,
with more than 50 industry awards to his
credit during his 19-plus years as a communications consultant.
Since his return to Utah in the fall of 1987, David has been actively involved
in helping organizations in the state, throughout the U.S. and overseas to
succeed through aggressive PR, IR and marcom programs. These efforts have helped
David’s clients generate increased visibility in the marketplace, grow
sales and revenues, and raise stock market valuations on Wall Street.
David presently heads Politis
Communications, an agency that specializes in working with organizations
in the high-tech and life sciences industries, while also serving non-technical
firms. Formed in 1990, Politis Communications was selected in 1999
by the MountainWest Venture Group (MWVG)
as one of the 100 fastest growing firms in Utah as a member of the
Utah100.
In addition to running Politis Communications, David is
actively involved in the state’s technology and business community.
For example, he presently serves on the board of directors of the Utah
Valley Entrepreneurial Forum (UVEF) and for nine years (1988-1996)
he volunteered in a similar role with the MWVG as an officer, board member
and a president of the non-profit organization. David has also been a
long-time supporter and an active participant in UITA
(the Utah Information Technology Association), and Politis Communications
has provided PR services to UVEF, MWVG
and UITA on a pro bono basis.
One of the more interesting aspects of David’s career is his work
to observe, chronicle and support the successful efforts of Utah’s high-tech
businesses and technologists to make technology and science an everyday part
of life in modern society. To do this, he began writing “Utah
Tech Watch” in 1994, a self-syndicated weekly column currently published
in print in The Enterprise (Salt Lake City) and
in the online version of the
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), and previously
published in print in by both the Deseret News and The
Daily Herald (Provo, Utah). His ability to make technical
matters easily understood by the general public has also made him a
favorite among local journalists, many of whom often turn to David for
on-the-record comments on topics ranging from computer viruses to the technology
heavy Nasdaq Stock Market.
In addition to his 13-plus years as the head of Politis Communications, David
successfully started and ran Salt Lake-based DSW Public Relations from 1987
through 1990. He also built the successful PR operations of TFB/Davis in
Seattle between mid-1985 and 1987, after starting his career in Palo Alto,
California with Tycer-Fultz-Bellack in 1984.
David has also taken an active role in community service, including several
years in the 1990s as an advisor to the Utah Special
Olympics, as a former board member for the Utah
Alzheimer’s Association, and as an advisory board member to the
Gore School of Business at Westminster College in
Salt Lake City. Additionally, he has coached a variety of championship youth
teams in sports ranging from volleyball to basketball to football.
David taught an introductory course in public relations as an adjunct professor
at Brigham Young University for five semesters
in the mid-1990s, and he is a regular guest lecturer and presenter at Utah
universities and business functions/conferences.
David received his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from BYU,
and he lives with his wife, Allisha, and their five children in Sandy, Utah.
